Language for specific purposes - German
Language for specific purposes differ from the common language and builds on it. Many different professional, technical and specialist areas have their own technical language. Technical Languages are characterized by the use of of certain technical terms and foreign words, the so-called technical vocabulary. This contributes to the the unambiguousness of the technical language, which allows to describe facts precisely and accurately. and precisely. Science, technology, medicine and economy are examples of areas that have a specific technical language. |
Course Coordination
Dr. Kristina SeibertHello, my name is Kristina Seibert and I come from Westerwald, which is a region in the north of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. I studied "Literary Studies: Literature, Culture, Media" and did my PhD on the construction of regions in German-language regional crime novels. In addition, I completed a continuing education program in teaching German as a foreign language. My special interests are researching creative as well as collaborative writing and, in this context, didactics for writing support in foreign language teaching. Therefore, creative and/or collaborative writing tasks are an integral part of my German teaching. |
NRWege ins Studium
As part of the 'NRWege ins Studium' project we offer two German language courses to students with foreign educational qualifications starting in this summer semester 2024.
In the course Fit in DaF: German for specific purposes the aim is to consolidate and expand their German in such a way that they are better able to master challenges in their studies. The contents of this course are geared towards the needs of the students and focused on the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, which are supplemented by grammar and vocabulary.
The courses are designed for students studying specific courses who have already passed a DSH, TestDaF, TELC C1 Hochschule or any examination similar.
The course German in the Work Context (from B1.2 level) aim to prepare the students for new challenges and communicative situations that come with starting a new job. Both oral and written language actions (e.g. presentations, discussions, customer conversations, emails, protocols, reports) are taken into account. In addition, various intercultural challenges will be discussed.
The courses are designed for students who have already finished B1.1 german level.
Since the courses are financed through the 'NRWege' project, students with a refugee background have priority in the course admission. It is imperative that the participants are willing to fill out a questionnaire at the beginning of the semester with information about country of origin, date of entry, residence status, etc.
Teachers in the 'NRWege ins Studium' projectJessica BergerHello, my name is Jessica Berger and I moved from Cologne to Siegen in 2004. I studied "Literary Studies: Literature, Culture and Media" and later completed a certificate program for teaching German as a foreign and second language. In addition to the administrative supervision of the general language DaF courses, I teach various specialized language courses. In doing so, it is especially important to me to support students studying technical courses in continuously expanding and deepening their knowledge of German. |
