onSET Placement Tests

The onSET is a language placement test in the C-Test format. It allows you to determine your global language competence in English. Before attending an English course at the Language Center, all new participants with prior knowledge of English must first take the onSET language placement test. According to the result, they are then assigned to a course at the appropriate level.

Please register for an English course during the enrollment periods via unisono ("desired course", your personal assessment) and receive further information about the placement test by mail (procedure, date, etc.). If you have a valid proof/certificate of your knowledge, a placement test is not necessary (e.g. TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, Cambridge, UNIcert).)

onSET dates for studying abroad

The onSET tests are offered for English as part of the application process for studying abroad and internships ( Promos scholarships).

For Promos scholarships and overseas stays, there are dates agreed with the department ISA during the application phases.

For all other study abroad and study purposes, the Language Center offers a fixed date for the OnSet language test once a month.

Monthly dates winter semester 2023/24:

• Monday, 11th December 2023, 10h
• Monday, 15th January 2024, 10h

Please note: An onSET test can only be repeated if it can be proven that a language course to improve language skills has taken place, or if a significant period of time has been spent in a country where the language is spoken.
